How to Win at Texas Hold'em

Playing Position in Middle Stakes No Limit Hold'em
If you’re a no limit Texas hold’em player, you have plenty of options, both in
live casinos and online. Most
texas
holdem online poker sites and casinos have a number of poker tables
spreading middle stakes no limit Texas hold’em games, with blinds ranging from
$2/$4 to $10/$20. These games attract many different types of players, from the
very strong to the very weak, from rank amateurs, who don’t have the faintest
idea what
texas
holdem odds is, to budding pros. You will need to keep your wits about you
in these games, and one way to do that is by taking advantage of position.
Your position, or when you act in the hand, determines how informed your
decisions are, and in a middle stakes no limit hold’em game, that can make the
difference between adding someone’s entire stack to yours, or giving your entire
stack away. Here’s how you can use position to make sure you are on the right
end of confrontations.
Playing Out of Position
When you’re playing out of position, you need to tread carefully. A middle
stakes no limit
Texas Hold em
online game is a great place to play marginal and unusual hands, hands like
suited connectors or even one gapped hands like T 8. You are hoping to flop a
well disguised strong hand and forcing someone with a hand like an over-pair to
commit all their chips. This is much more difficult to do when the player you
are trying to trap acts after you. If you bet out, you are giving away the
strength of your hand, and if you have flopped a drawing hand, you will have to
work hard to avoid getting bet or raised off of that hand, and may have to
commit a lot of chips to do so.
Playing In Position
On the other hand, from a late position, you can trap by flat calling if you hit
a big hand and your opponent bets into you, you can bluff if you sense weakness,
and you can buy free cards if you choose by betting the flop with a draw, hoping
to induce a check to the river if you miss the turn, or to get a call by betting
into the now larger pot if you hit. These factors make playing marginal hands
much more profitable. Even premium hands can be more profitable in late
position. If you raise pre-flop with a premium hand on the button, your raise
will get less respect since it is from late position, and you may get more
action.
Getting Position on Your Opponent
If you notice a player with a very large chip stack, or one who is obviously a
loose, aggressive player who doesn’t care about what
odds texas
holdem gives him, try to get them on your right, as close to you as
possible. This will enable you to act after them on almost every round. Since
these are the players you can benefit most from trapping, and are the ones most
likely to raise you off a drawing hand or pressure you when you are not that
strong, this is a great position to be in. Tighter players can be on your left,
since you do not need as much information to beat them. If you raise pre-flop
and again on the flop and your tight opponent calls or raises both times, you
can put them on a strong hand and safely slow down or fold when they bet if you
are not strong.
